Top 5 Travel Health Tips: Stay Healthy on the Go

Be it for work or summer vacation, constant traveling can leave your body feeling run down and fatigued. Out of your routine and out of your element, your immune system is barraged by new bacteria and germs. When we're away from home, we all tend to let our normal eating and exercise routines fall by the wayside. But don't take a vacation from healthy habits! Stay healthy and plan ahead with a few smart travel health tips.

1. Wash Your Hands.

No matter where you are, this is always important. Clean hands help reduce the risk of spreading germs both to others and yourself. Just because you're out for dinner, doesn't mean you can't still make a quick pit stop at the restroom for a long and soapy hand scrub.

2. Pack Smart.

Be prepared. Anticipate all the possibilities and pack a small kit of what you think you might need. Not sure what to expect? Here are some travel staples:

  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellant
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Diarrhea/upset stomach medication
  • Pain relievers, such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Allergy medication
  • Cold/flu remedies
  • Antacids
  • Motion sickness medication
  • Thermometer

3. Check Your Temperature.

A fever is your body's first sign that your immune system is neutralizing bacterial and viral infections. If you have even a slight fever, it's time to start loading up on vitamins and start paying attention for other warning signs.

4. Stretch It Out.

When sitting for long periods of time, your risk of deep vein thrombosis, or blood clots forming in your legs from inactivity, increases. Deep vein thrombosis is a serious condition and can even result in a pulmonary embolism if the blood clots travel. Pregnant women especially are at risk for DVT. To avoid this, do constant small movements with your legs and stretch whenever possible. Try rolling your ankles and bouncing your knees.

5. Clean Your Surroundings.

Last but not least, the most important of our travel health tips: channel your inner Lysol®. Be a clean freak. Bring Lysol® Disinfectant Spray To Go with you on your next trip and spray down the surfaces in your hotel room, airplane, or even the door handle of a taxi. They're all covered in germs and not cleaned nearly enough. Just imagine how many people have held that hotel phone in their hand to order room service before you. Or, try our Lysol®Disinfecting Wipes – the perfect addition for any car trip. Especially with kids, the next spill is always just around the corner.

Don't let traveling be your excuse. Stay healthy and clean with Lysol®!
