Lysol Product Efficacy
Due to recent speculation and social media activity, RB (the makers of Lysol and Dettol) has been asked whether internal administration of disinfectants may be appropriate for investigation or use as a treatment for coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

Many Lysol products are on EPA’s list of disinfectants (List N) for use against SARS-CoV-2.
The EPA expects all products on List N to continue to kill all strains of SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19.
List N disinfectants work by chemically inactivating viruses. The difficulty of killing a virus depends on its physical features, and the recent mutations to SARS-CoV-2 have not changed the basic physical properties.
For more information about emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/science-and-research/scientific-brief-emerging-variants.html
For more information about List N, visit: https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-coronavirus-covid-19
Many Lysol products are EPA registered to kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria which may include the Human Coronavirus. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV). SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is a new coronavirus strain, according to the CDC.

Lysol does not recommend using Lysol Disinfectant spray on brass, copper or aluminum or painted wood surfaces. Always rinse toys and food contact surfaces with potable water after use. For soft surfaces, Lysol Disinfectant Spray is not recommended for use on leather, rayon, silk or satin fabrics or acrylic plastics. Always test on a hidden area of fabric.
We do not recommend directly breathing in Lysol products, which would likely happen if you spray Lysol on a face mask and do not wash it immediately after. Alternatively, you can use Lysol Laundry Sanitizer in pre-soak to disinfect your face mask. Always check the label / material of your face mask and follow instructions for use. Disposable masks should not be laundered or re-used.
Surfaces remain listed as a possible transmission route. In its guidance, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines that “it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about how this virus spreads.” Disinfecting surfaces is one of several important steps the CDC lists as key to keeping yourself protected.
