Disinfecting Tips

Some germs can live on surfaces for days. A few simple disinfecting tips can help protect your family by stopping the spread of these germs.

Where to Disinfect

Routine disinfection is easy, once you know where to look for germs!

  • Target frequently-touched surfaces. Surfaces are touched by germy hands...and can easily be spread to the next person who touches that surface. So if you want to help prevent the spread of germs - disinfect the surfaces that get touched the most!

These include: Doorknobs, tables, remote controls, video game control panels, faucets, toilet flush handles, telephones, laptops, computer keyboards and mice, refrigerator handles - and any other spot in your home that everyone handles often!

  • Don't forget toys. It's so easy for germs to be spread on children's toys, puzzles, plastic play equipment, and more. These items can go from shelf to hands to mouth in an instant! Be sure to disinfect them regularly - especially before and after play dates. But remember: these items should be rinsed well with potable water before putting them back in the play area.
  • Remember Fido and Fluffy's belongings. Pets bring a lot of happiness into a home...but they can bring germs, too. Remember to disinfect their eating areas and plastic toys on a regular basis - and rinse these items with potable water afterward. Be sure that your pet has his/her own toys, and don't let your child "share" them. And if a pet has an accident in the house, clean it promptly and disinfect the area.
  • Tackle the "Top Germiest Sites in the Home" by placing them on top of your disinfection priority list!
