Mono is caused by a herpes type virus (Epsein Barr virus). It is contagious from person to person, basically by saliva exchange and therefore air and surfaces do not play a role in the transmission of the disease. As a result, disinfection of surfaces do not play a role in prevention of the diseases spread.
